Proper usage of Leather
The
very first thing you should do is read the manufacturer's instruction
because your leather may have unique handling instructions. Although most
brand new leather are already treated with a repellent it doesn't hurt
to spray an extra layer. Leather should be used against the cold but not
against the rain. It can repel an occassional drizzle but heavy moisture
like rain is not good for the material and can even damage it permanently.
And if you do get it wet, never heat it dry but instead it should air-dry.
Be sure to stuff it so it will retain its shape.
During the summer months, it is best to store your leather in a controlled environmnet that is cool and dry. Do not use metal hangers that tend to rust. Cover it with cotton or other breathable material. Avoid wrapping it in plastic which will dry it out. Avoid direct sunlight which may cause uneven fading. Just as we care for our skin by regular washing, you need to do the same with leather. If you're careful with your leather, it can last you a lifetime.
