How to protect and maintain your
valuable rug
The
following are some simple and general ideas to protect, care and mainten
your rug.
- Depending on the foot traffic,
you should rotate your rug and turn it around at least once a
year for even wear.
- Do not let your rug be exposed
to direct sunlight. The colours will fade away through time.
Use appropriate curtains and draperies.
- Vacuum your rug regularly.
Do not wait until it gets dirty. Dust and soil will damage the fiber
of your rug resulting in its shorter life. When you vacuum your rug,
be careful with the fringes.
- When something is spilled
on your rug, act quickly before it sets in. Scoop up as much of
the spill as possible and then use a dry cloth or paper towel to blot
and absorb the liquid.
- Apply warm water
to the stain and then blot again until the stain is removed from your
rug and it is no longer visible. You may have to mix laundry detergent
with warm water and apply it to the stain if necessary.
- If the stain is chewing
gum or wax, use a spoon to remove what you can following step #4 above.
Then freeze it using ice in a small plastic bag. When it becomes
brittle, shatter the gum (or wax), vacuum and use warm water & detergent
to clean it completely.
